Your task
READ ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!
Hello everyone!
I hope your exams went well and you've managed to have a few relaxing days before you start your A levels!
For your advanced portfolio in media, you will have to create a promotional package for a feature film. This includes;
- A trailer
- A film poster
- A front cover of a magazine which features the film
The total for the construction is, once again, out of 60. However the trailer is worth 40 marks and the poster and magazine cover are worth 10 each.
Just like you did before you started your foundation portfolio, I want you to do a preliminary task in order to practise for the real thing. This is an opportunity for you to do some initial research into trailers and how they are constructed, some audience research and practise your editing skills. Also this is a chance for you to be marked according to the assessment criteria and be awarded a grade, along with feedback so that you can start in September with strong foundations for your coursework!
Therefore, your preliminary task is as follows:
In groups, re-create the film trailer for Juno, along with appropriate research and planning and a brief evaluation.
This is the trailer: Juno trailer
This will be a 4 week project
Week 1: Research and planning
Week 2: Filming
Week 3: Filming/ Editing
Week 4: Editing/ Evaluation
Obviously, I do not expect you to re-create this shot-for-shot, or even scene-for-scene. The point of this exercise is for you to understand how trailers are constructed, including the range of editing transitions used and how the premise of the narrative is used to entice the audience without giving too much away. Most of your filming will be done in school, so you must think about this in your planning stage. Where are you going to shoot, what are you going to use for costumes and mise-en-scene?
Another thing that I hoped that you would get from this exercise, is a chance to work on blogging creatively and incorporating different technologies into your research, planning and construction. Before you do this, can you start a new blog. This will not be your coursework blog, but your own personal blog which will contain class work, activities, projects and exam revision. You will need to email me your new addresses.
In order for you to experiment with different approaches to blogging, I have devised a checklist of tasks that you need to complete as part of the research and planning and have a lost of blogging tools to help you blog more creatively. You must consider which might be an appropriate use of technology for the task in hand. You can split these tasks among your group but these tasks must be finished before you can do the filming.
You can find the resources you need in:
student shared folder (y drive)- media- Miss Olive- year 13 preliminary task
The task table needs to be filled in and printed out when complete. Use the blogging tools sheet to give you ideas.
There will be a prize to the group who does the most creative blogging.
The deadline for the planning and research to be complete is Friday, so filming can begin next week!
The groups are as follows:
Mohamed
Sumaya
Iqra
Ashleigh
Pavan
Nicole
Ashwin
Rhea
Sangam
Ewelina
Ali
Kate
HAVE FUN EVERYONE!
I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL, AND HOW YOU'VE GOT ON WITH THE TASK, ON THURSDAY.
